Bessent Plays Guess Who With Compliance Departments

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced he will sanction a large bank on Monday. Didn't name which one. Just said "a large bank" like he's reading a f*cking riddle at a compliance conference.

Every risk manager at every institution with more than fifty billion in assets just started sweating through their Oxford cloth. Lawyers are billing hours right now doing absolutely nothing. Some guy at Deutsche is updating his LinkedIn. Another guy at HSBC is pretending he's been job hunting for months. Credit Suisse would be nervous but they're already dead.

This is Iran strategy apparently. The strategy is announcing you'll punch someone in the face without saying who. Real shock and awe stuff. Genghis Khan used to do this. He'd ride up to a village and say "I'm going to burn down a large yurt on Monday." Kept everyone on their toes. Terrifying.

Retail traders are scanning their Robinhood accounts trying to figure out which bank stock to panic sell. They're Googling "what banks do Iran stuff" at 2am. They're joining Discord servers called "Bessent Leaks Alpha." One guy just shorted JPMorgan because it has the word Morgan in it and that sounds vaguely European and threatening.

The technical setup doesn't care. The 50-day moving average doesn't read Treasury press releases. Support and resistance levels aren't refreshing Reuters every fifteen minutes. The chart will do exactly what it was going to do on Monday regardless of which bank Bessent decides to ruin. Could be Citigroup. Could be Barclays. Could be some Iranian subsidiary no one's heard of that processes goat cheese payments.

But sure, stay up all weekend trying to front-run a sanction announcement. Trade the rumor. Eat the loss.
