Carrier Groups: The World's Most Expensive Maybe

The United States is deploying a third aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East. Trump might bomb Iran again after the midterms. Might. The operative word here is might.

Retail traders saw this headline and immediately bought defense stocks. Lockheed Martin jumped. Raytheon ticked up. Northrop Grumman moved. Every dipsh*t with a Robinhood account suddenly became a geopolitical strategist. They read "third carrier group" and thought they'd cracked the code on World War III.

Here's what a carrier strike group actually signals: We're thinking about thinking about doing something. It's the military equivalent of your ex texting "hey" at 2am. Could mean everything. Could mean nothing. Definitely costs billions either way.

The chart doesn't care about aircraft carriers. The chart doesn't read headlines. The chart doesn't know what the Strait of Hormuz is or why three floating airports matter more than two floating airports. Support holds or it doesn't. Resistance breaks or it doesn't. That's the entire job.

But no. Kevin in Tampa needed to buy calls on defense contractors because he read a summary on Twitter. Kevin thinks carrier deployments are bullish. Kevin thinks Trump weighing options is a buy signal. Kevin doesn't know that "weighing options" is what presidents do between golf holes.

The Middle East has been tense for four thousand consecutive years. Carrier groups rotate in and out like shift managers at Arby's. Nothing about this headline changes the trend. Nothing about this headline invalidates the 50-day moving average. Nothing about this headline makes your stop loss dumber or smarter than it was yesterday.

Kevin's calls expired worthless because he traded the news instead of the price, and now he's three carriers deep in margin debt with no exit strategy.
