China Votes No, Bessent Pivots to Iran, Markets Remain Useless

China dissented from a G20 statement about cheap exports flooding the market. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned this while explaining his actual job, which is strangling Iran's economy with secondary sanctions. These two things have nothing to do with each other. The headline knows this. It doesn't care.

Bessent stood in front of reporters and said China refused to sign a piece of paper condemning the business model that built their entire economy. Groundbreaking stuff. Then he pivoted to Iran because that's what he's actually working on. The G20 statement was irrelevant before the ink dried. It's more irrelevant now that one of the two countries anyone cares about told everyone else to f*ck off.

Retail traders saw this headline and immediately started scanning their charts for confirmation. They found it, obviously. Bullish divergence on the RSI. Bearish flag on the Ichimoku cloud. Death cross forming on the 47-minute timeframe. They entered positions based on a diplomatic spat that changed exactly zero supply chains and a secondary sanctions threat that won't move a single stock price until someone actually gets sanctioned.

The G20 writes statements like this every year. Member states ignore them. Everyone pretends the statements matter. Financial media reports on them as if they're binding international law. They are vibes written in committee and published as consensus. China said no this time because they're tired of pretending.

Bessent's Iran plan is unrelated to Chinese export policy, but both showed up in the same quote during the same press event, so now they're married forever in a Reuters headline. Some poor intern is building a presentation deck right now explaining how sanctions on Tehran will impact aluminum prices in Shenzhen.

None of this will show up on your P&L unless you're dumb enough to trade the news.
