Crypto Stocks Rally on Sector Rotation Nobody Can Explain

Crypto stocks surged Monday while the market tanked. Investors rotated out of AI infrastructure and chips. They rotated into crypto equities. Not bitcoin. Not ethereum. Not actual digital assets that someone could theoretically use for something. Stocks of companies that touch crypto.

The rotation thesis goes like this: You made money on Nvidia. Now you're bored. Time to chase a different story. Crypto companies have stocks. Stocks go up sometimes. You buy them.

Bitcoin miners lagged. The headline says so explicitly. The companies that actually mine bitcoin underperformed the companies that just wave their hands near blockchain technology. Perfect. Miners produce the asset. They own the hardware. They pay the electric bills. They lagged stocks of exchanges and wallet providers who clip tickets while doing nothing.

Retail traders saw green candles on Coinbase and Marathon and decided this was the smart money moving. The smart money was rotating from one speculative momentum trade into another speculative momentum trade with worse fundamentals. That's not rotation. That's panic with a business degree.

Chip stocks sold off so crypto stocks rallied. The logic connecting these two events exists only in headlines written after the fact. Nobody woke up Monday thinking the semiconductor sector's pain would be crypto's gain. They saw price action. They invented a narrative. They called it rotation.

The bitcoin miners lagging is the only honest price action in this entire story. Miners have costs. They have revenue tied to bitcoin's price. They have earnings you can model. Investors looked at that and said no thanks. They bought the stocks with no clear path to profitability instead.

This is sector rotation the way musical chairs is estate planning.
