Mary Barra stood in front of microphones Tuesday and announced that Cadillac will build new gas-powered sedans and SUVs. The CT5. The XT5. The XT6 that they killed off because nobody wanted it. Three vehicles that run on dinosaur juice in the year 2026.
This comes after GM spent the last four years telling anyone with ears that electric vehicles were the future and gas cars were for people who still use MapQuest. They built factories. They aired commercials during the Super Bowl. They named their EV platform Ultium like it was a f*cking superhero.
Then someone in accounting did the math. Turns out making electric cars that lose money on every unit sold is not a sustainable business model. Shocking insight from the finance team.
So now Cadillac pivots back to internal combustion engines. The same technology they've been building for a century. The same technology they said was obsolete. The same technology that actually generates profit because people buy the f*cking things.
Retail traders who bought GM at $63 because Mary Barra said the magic letters E and V in the same sentence are now holding shares at $47. They believed the press releases. They trusted the vision. They thought this time would be different.
The XT6 is particularly funny. GM discontinued it in 2024 because sales were terrible. Now they're bringing it back with a fresh coat of paint and calling it next-generation. That's not a product strategy. That's admitting you have no idea what you're doing.
The technical chart on GM shows a stock that's gone nowhere for five years while the company burned through billions pivoting to EVs and then pivoting back to gas. But sure, this announcement changes everything. The CT5 sedan will definitely be the catalyst that retail has been waiting for.
