Industrials Now Overpriced in Two Sectors Simultaneously

The industrials sector has achieved what most retail traders thought impossible. It convinced investors to pay tech-level valuations for companies that make f*cking cranes.

P/E ratios in industrials are climbing toward tech multiples because someone decided the future of AI requires more concrete. Data centers need buildings. Buildings need steel beams. Steel beams need the kind of companies your grandfather bought dividend checks from. Wall Street looked at this chain of logic and decided to price Caterpillar like it invented the transformer model.

Investor flows are strong, which is finance speak for people are panic-buying industrial stocks before they understand what industrials actually do. They heard AI infrastructure boom and started throwing money at anything that moves dirt or pours cement. The sector is benefitting from proximity to a trend the same way a gas station benefits from being near a highway. Except the gas station doesn't trade at 30 times earnings.

Tech stocks earned their stupid valuations by promising impossible growth and occasionally delivering half of it. Industrials earned theirs by standing near tech stocks during a photo op. The difference is tech companies might build something that changes the world. Industrial companies will definitely build the warehouse that stores the servers. Truly visionary.

Retail traders are now learning that buying the picks and shovels works great until you realize you paid Nvidia prices for a company that manufactures actual shovels. The AI boom will end. The data centers will get built. And everyone who bought industrials at tech multiples will spend the next decade explaining to their spouse why the cement stock is down forty percent.

At least when you overpay for software you can pretend it scales infinitely. When you overpay for a forklift manufacturer, you just own an expensive forklift manufacturer.
