New Boss Gets Handed the Flaming Deep Fryer

McDonald's announces its U.S. business is underperforming. Stock drops 11%. Market cap sits at $191 billion. The company responds by naming a new head of its largest market. That'll fix it.

Imagine getting promoted into a dumpster fire. You walk in. The fries are cold. The ice cream machine broke in 2019. Customers are leaving. Your reward for years of corporate ladder climbing is a territory in decline and a press release that reads like a ransom note. Congratulations on your new opportunity.

The stock is down 11% this year because people keep not buying Big Macs at the rate shareholders demand. Revolutionary insight. The chart shows a line going down. Technical analysis confirms the line is still going down. It may continue going down or it may go up. This information is worth exactly nothing but here we are talking about it anyway.

Some analyst is already drafting a note about turnaround potential. Menu innovation. Value proposition. Digital engagement. All the words that mean we have no f*cking idea what happens next but we need to justify our salaries. The new executive will implement a strategic initiative. That initiative will involve selling hamburgers to people who are currently choosing not to buy hamburgers. Brilliant.

Retail traders will see this headline and think it means something. They'll check the RSI. They'll draw lines on a chart. They'll convince themselves a new executive appointment is a bullish catalyst because a YouTube video told them leadership changes drive alpha. Then they'll buy calls and watch them expire worthless while explaining to their spouse that this was actually a hedging strategy.

The technical setup remains unchanged. Support at who cares. Resistance at it doesn't matter. The 200-day moving average is a line some guy made up in the 1960s that has zero predictive power but everyone pretends is sacred. McDonald's will sell burgers until it doesn't. The stock will move based on nothing you can chart. The new boss will get blamed when that happens.
