Singapore wants more babies. Has money. Has a plan. Lacks people willing to make the babies. Classic supply-side problem except the commodity is screaming infants and the supply chain is two exhausted parents who did the math on childcare costs.
The government is throwing cash at this. Subsidies for fertility treatments. Tax breaks for parents. Longer maternity leave. Housing grants. Everything short of a Minister of Getting Laid standing outside nightclubs with a clipboard. None of it works immediately because turns out you can't stimulate human reproduction the way you stimulate an economy. Takes nine months minimum and that's if you start tonight.
Here's the beautiful part. Policy makers know success won't show up for years. Might be decades before they know if any of this worked. They're flying blind. Building a bridge with no idea if there's land on the other side. Just spending taxpayer money on a hunch that Singaporeans will eventually want to raise children in one of the most expensive cities on Earth instead of buying another investment property.
The cultural piece is even better. Singapore needs to convince its citizens that having kids is worth it. In a country where the average work week makes Wall Street look like a meditation retreat. Where Tiger Moms are considered moderate. Where your child's test scores at age six determine whether you can show your face at family dinner. Real attractive proposition. Sign me up for eighteen years of that.
Retail traders see this headline and think it's bullish for baby product stocks. Start buying diapers futures or whatever dogsh*t ETF tracks strollers. Never occurs to them that a demographic crisis means the entire economic model is collapsing. That everything from real estate to equity valuations depends on more workers showing up. That their portfolios require an endless supply of younger idiots to buy their bags.
Singapore built a financial paradise and forgot to include the part where people f*ck.
