Taiwan Gets Weapons While Your Portfolio Gets Liquidated

A Taipei official announced that arming Taiwan remains an important U.S. interest following a Trump-Xi summit. This matters to your trading account about as much as feng shui matters to a demolition crew.

The official made this statement after two world leaders met to discuss things that will not save your calls. Trump and Xi presumably talked. Words were exchanged. Taiwan still exists in the same geopolitical position it occupied before the meeting. Your stop-loss still triggered at the worst possible price.

Retail traders will now spend the next three weeks analyzing what this means for defense contractors. They will buy shares at the top. They will set alerts for Taiwan news. They will join Discord servers dedicated to parsing State Department press releases. None of this will prevent them from panic-selling when their position drops four percent.

The summit happened. Someone said something about Taiwan. Journalists wrote it down. You read it. Now you think you have an edge. You do not have an edge. You have a Robinhood account and a subscription to a newsletter written by a guy who got lucky once in 2019.

Taiwan will continue to be a flashpoint regardless of who sells them weapons or which geriatric statesman shakes hands with which authoritarian leader. Your portfolio will continue to be a flashpoint regardless of whether you read this headline or ignored it completely.

The official spoke with confidence about U.S. interests. He did not mention your interests. Nobody ever does.
