Trump ordered Anthropic to block foreign nationals from using its best models. Anthropic complied by disabling Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for everyone. Then Trump announced the company is no longer a national security threat. The threat assessment changed after the company kneecapped its own product.

This is like your dad grounding you until you stop seeing that girl, watching you break up with her via text, then telling you you're mature now.

Anthropic built two models with names that sound like rejected fantasy novel manuscripts. Foreign nationals apparently wanted access to them badly enough to constitute a national security risk. The solution was not to verify citizenship. The solution was to turn the models off. For everybody. The company chose scorched earth over customer verification.

Now Trump says the threat is gone. Of course it is. You can't threaten national security if your product doesn't work. It's the corporate equivalent of cutting your own brake lines to prove you're serious about not speeding.

Retail traders are currently Googling whether they can buy Anthropic stock. They cannot. The company is private. This will not stop them from asking their Robinhood app why ANTH isn't showing up. Some genius is already trading the wrong ticker because it has AI in the description.

The models are called Fable and Mythos. Not Enterprise. Not Titan. Fable. As if the marketing team asked a medieval bard to name their neural network. The threat level dropped the moment someone admitted these things existed but nobody could use them anymore.

Trump got exactly what he wanted: a company that disabled its own technology to satisfy a presidential demand, then received a clean bill of health after the damage was done. Anthropic gets to exist. Just without the products that made anyone care in the first place.
