Anthropic Hosts Show-and-Tell for People With Money

Anthropic will gather investors at its headquarters this week to share revenue numbers. Not public revenue numbers. Not SEC-filed revenue numbers. Revenue numbers for a select group of people who already gave them money and might give them more.

This is how private companies work. You show financials to investors. You do not show them to the poors. The poors get a Bloomberg headline and the word "updated" doing heavy lifting in a summary paragraph.

AI lab financials have become central to tech trade, which is a phrase that means absolutely nothing but sounds important enough to justify a meeting. Central to what trade? The trade where venture capital firms write nine-figure checks based on a PowerPoint and a vibes assessment? That trade was already happening. It will continue happening. These revenue numbers will not change it.

The investors will fly to San Francisco. They will sit in a conference room. Someone from Anthropic will say the revenue number went up. Everyone will nod. Someone will ask about margins. Someone else will ask about customer concentration. The Anthropic person will say something vague about enterprise adoption. Then they will serve coffee that costs forty dollars a pound.

Retail traders will read about this meeting in a headline. They will not attend the meeting. They will not see the numbers. They will not invest in Anthropic because Anthropic is private and they are not accredited. But they will feel something. They will feel informed. They will open their brokerage app and buy shares of a semiconductor company they cannot spell.

The revenue numbers could be ten million or ten billion. Would not matter. The investors already decided before the meeting whether they are in or out. The presentation exists so everyone can pretend decisions are made with data instead of fear of missing the next trillion-dollar outcome.

Anthropic will disclose nothing to you, because you have nothing they want.
