Lutnick Flies to North Carolina to Sell Servers Nobody Asked For

Howard Lutnick pitched U.S. AI adoption at the G20 Innovation Ministerial in Chapel Hill. He also pushed data center buildout. Jensen Huang and Sam Altman were there. Ministers discussed policy and trade. Day 2 of a conference that will change absolutely nothing about how you lose money.

Lutnick runs Cantor Fitzgerald and serves as Commerce Secretary. His job now involves flying to North Carolina to tell foreign ministers they should buy American data centers. The sales pitch: your country needs more servers or you'll fall behind in the AI race. The AI race being a thing we invented six months ago and decided was civilization-ending if you don't participate.

Jensen Huang showed up wearing a leather jacket, presumably. Sam Altman showed up to remind everyone that AGI is three years away and also please don't regulate it. Ministers nodded politely while calculating how much taxpayer money they'd need to waste on GPUs that will be obsolete by the time the centers are built.

Chapel Hill hosted this event. Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Not Geneva. Not Brussels. Chapel Hill. The G20 flew to a college town so Lutnick could pitch them on infrastructure spending that will print money for Nvidia shareholders and nobody else.

Data center buildout means pouring concrete and running power lines so computers can generate images of dogs wearing hats. Critical infrastructure for the modern economy. Can't have economic growth without servers that consume a small nation's worth of electricity to tell you your code has a syntax error.

Retail traders read headlines like this and think they've unlocked alpha. They buy AI stocks. They buy cloud stocks. They buy anything with the word data in the company name. Then they check their portfolio three months later and wonder why Lutnick isn't personally reimbursing them for their losses.

The ministerial continues. Trade gets discussed. Policy gets discussed. Nothing binding gets signed. Everyone flies home. Your stocks do whatever they were going to do anyway, which is f*ck you.
