META: Fold Now Or Hold Until Your Wife's Boyfriend Calls

CNBC says poker teaches us not to fold on Meta. Poker teaches me that the guy giving advice at the table is the guy losing his mortgage.

Meta sold off after earnings. Investors panicked about spending. Then the analysts showed up to say the in-house AI lab isn't getting enough credit.

Credit. From Wall Street. The same Wall Street that gave credit to your cousin's NFT of a sad frog.

Meta Superintelligence Labs has Alexandr Wang running it. Mark Zuckerberg paid a fortune to get him. Zuckerberg also spent years and billions renaming his company for a virtual world where legless avatars attended meetings. He wants credit now. Sure.

Here is the poker lesson. Don't fold a good hand because of one bad card on the river. Fine. But you don't know it's a good hand. You're holding a stock chart and a feeling. That's not a hand. That's a hostage note.

Retail traders love poker metaphors. They've watched one World Series of Poker broadcast and now they're Doyle Brunson in a hoodie. They say "pot odds" while checking their account balance in the parking lot of a Chili's.

The pros will tell you the hard part of poker is folding. Nobody writes that headline. "Fold, go outside, touch grass, sell the shares you bought on margin." That doesn't get clicks.

Meta's AI lab may well be great. I wouldn't know. I read charts, and the chart looks like a ski slope designed by someone who hates skiers.

Hold if you want. Meta will survive. Your position will survive too, in the sense that your widow will find it.
