Salesforce reported numbers that exceeded expectations. Analysts responded by raising their price target. This is what passes for insight in 2026.
The company defied something called the "SaaSpocalypse." Nobody called it that until three weeks ago. Now every analyst uses the term like they invented it. Software-as-a-Service stocks went down. Then one went up. Apocalypse averted.
Salesforce also announced a partnership with Anthropic. Anthropic makes AI models. Salesforce will integrate these models into its platform. Retail traders saw the word "AI" and experienced full-body dopamine release. They bought calls. They will lose money.
The guidance was strong. Revenue projections beat estimates. Margin expansion continues. These are numbers. Numbers go into spreadsheets. Spreadsheets tell you nothing about what the stock does tomorrow.
Technical analysts looked at the chart. Support held at the 200-day moving average. Price broke through resistance. A golden cross formed last month. None of this predicted the earnings beat. None of this will predict the next move. But the lines are pretty.
The analysts raising their price targets today had lower price targets last quarter. The stock didn't change. The business didn't change. Their model inputs changed because the numbers changed because time passed. They get paid for this.
Somewhere a retail trader is reading the headline about Anthropic partnership. He's thinking this is the next Microsoft-OpenAI situation. He's calculating his Lambo lease payment. He doesn't know what Anthropic does. He doesn't know what Salesforce does. He knows the stock went up nine percent after hours. He knows he's about to be rich.
The SaaSpocalypse is over, apparently. Software stocks are back. Until next quarter when they're not. Then analysts will invent a new term and act surprised that subscription revenue can be cyclical.
The partnership with Anthropic gives Salesforce AI credibility it didn't have last week, despite already having AI features nobody uses.
