Treasury Department Invents New Way to F*ck Up a Press Conference

The Treasury Department blocked reporters from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg from covering the G20. Not all reporters. Just some. The ones who write things, presumably.

Trump then criticized NBC over an election comment because why have one media fight when you can have two. This is the diplomatic equivalent of starting a bar brawl and then complaining about the music. The G20 is where finance ministers pretend to coordinate monetary policy while photographers capture them shaking hands. Thrilling stuff. Real market-moving content. The kind of thing that definitely requires credential vetting by people who can't balance a checkbook.

Retail traders saw this headline and immediately checked if it would affect their Tesla calls. It will not. Nothing at the G20 has ever affected anything you own. The last consequential decision made at a G20 summit was which hotel to book for the next one.

The Treasury's reasoning for the credential denial remains unclear. Maybe the reporters asked too many questions. Maybe they asked the wrong questions. Maybe they existed. Hard to say. What we do know is that three of the largest financial news organizations in the world got told to wait in the car while everyone else went inside to discuss global economic stability. That's confidence.

Somewhere a day trader is reading this story between robbing his kid's college fund to buy more AMC shares, thinking this is why his portfolio is down 60 percent. It is not why. The G20 did not make you buy GameStop at $340. The Treasury Department did not whisper in your ear to leverage your entire net worth on dogecoin. You did that. Alone. With conviction.

The real story here is that the government found a new way to generate headlines that mean absolutely nothing to your account balance while you pretend they do.
