Trump wants to build a large military presence in Greenland. Denmark gets a say. The European Union already told him to f*ck off earlier this year. Greenland maintains it is not for sale. None of this stopped the announcement of a security deal that apparently includes turning an Arctic island into a forward operating base.
The technical setup here is perfect. Resistance at "sovereign nation," support at "we'll buy it anyway." Retail traders are currently Googling whether Greenland has a stock ticker and how to get long on permafrost.
This is a security deal. Security for whom? Security from what? Polar bears? The phrasing "large Military presence" does the heavy lifting. Not medium. Not modest. Large. The kind of presence you build when you want everyone to know you showed up uninvited and brought equipment.
Denmark is involved because Greenland is technically theirs, which makes this the geopolitical equivalent of negotiating with your landlord's landlord. The EU united to rebuke Trump over this exact push months ago. He filed that rebuke in the circular cabinet and kept moving.
Somewhere in Ohio, a guy with $847 in his Robinhood account just bought shares of a Danish shipping company because he thinks this means Greenland is going public. He will paper-hand it by Monday. His wife will ask what happened to the grocery money. He will say he was hedging against Arctic expansion. She will say nothing because she already called the lawyer.
Trump looked at a map, saw Greenland, and decided it needed more America on it. Denmark and the EU said no. Greenland said no. The deal got announced anyway because apparently "no" is just an opening bid when you're discussing military installations on someone else's frozen rock.
