The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency gave conditional approval to World Liberty Trust Company. That's the Trump family-backed crypto firm. They can now operate as a national trust bank. The conditional part means they have to meet requirements first. Nobody's reporting what those conditions are. Probably something boring like capital reserves and compliance infrastructure.
The whole point is stablecoins. World Liberty wants to issue them. A stablecoin is supposed to be pegged one-to-one with the dollar. It's crypto for people who got scared. You wanted to feel like a revolutionary but also wanted to know what your tokens would be worth tomorrow. Now you can get that from a company with Trump's name on it. The same guy who had a casino go bankrupt. In Atlantic City. Where people literally hand you money and walk away.
The charter means World Liberty can hold customer assets in trust. They can custody crypto. They can issue their own dollar-pegged tokens. All under federal banking supervision. The OCC will watch them. That's the same agency that watched Wells Fargo open millions of fake accounts. But sure, this time will be different.
Retail traders will buy these stablecoins. They'll think they're getting something safer than regular crypto. They'll move their money from Coinbase to World Liberty. They'll feel smart about it. Then they'll use those stablecoins to buy some other shitcoin that drops ninety percent in a week. The stablecoin will hold its value perfectly. They'll still be broke.
A Trump-branded bank that issues crypto tokens under federal supervision is the most 2026 thing imaginable. It's like someone fed every headline from the past six years into an algorithm and asked it to generate the stupidest possible outcome. Congratulations to everyone who said this couldn't happen. You were adorable.
