The API exists because waiting three extra seconds to read a Truth Social post was apparently cutting into someone's alpha. Day traders who can't profitably trade actual securities decided what they really needed was microsecond-level access to presidential shitposts. This is the innovation economy we were promised.
TMTG's crypto ventures also declined this quarter. Shocking that a social media company's blockchain pivot didn't print money. The combination of Trump-branded anything, social media, and cryptocurrency should have been unstoppable. It's like watching someone blend three separate dumpster fires and wondering why the smoothie tastes like smoke.
The $238 million loss works out to roughly $23.8 million per API customer if you assume all 10 signed this quarter. That's elite-level cash incineration. Most companies have to scale to billions in revenue before they can lose money this efficiently.
Some retail trader right now is looking at this headline and thinking "time to buy the dip." He's calculating the intrinsic value of faster Trump posts. He's building a DCF model where the terminal value is based on engagement metrics from a platform that loses a quarter billion dollars every three months. He will buy 47 shares at market open.
The API customers are paying actual money to solve a problem that doesn't exist so they can lose money faster than everyone else.
