U.S. Senator Bets Up To One Million Dollars That Pennsylvania Schoolchildren Will Still Exist In 2053

David McCormick, sitting U.S. Senator and presumably a man with access to information the rest of us are not privy to, has purchased somewhere between half a million and one million dollars of Cumberland Valley Pennsylvania School District general obligation bonds. They mature in 2053. He will be, at minimum, in his late eighties. The coupon is 5%. The disclosure came 22 days after the trade.

This is, technically, one of the most boring transactions a person with that much money could possibly make. Municipal school district bonds. In Pennsylvania. Maturing in 27 years. And yet here we are, writing about it, because the threshold for "notable" in congressional disclosure land is fifty thousand dollars, and this man cleared that bar by roughly nine hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

We are not suggesting anything. We are simply noting that a sitting Senator looked at the current geopolitical and fiscal landscape, consulted whatever senators consult, and decided the move was: slow, tax-advantaged, Pennsylvania schools, long duration, lock it up until 2053.

Either he knows something profoundly calming about the next three decades, or he just really believes in the Cumberland Valley School District. Both possibilities are, honestly, more reassuring than anything else we've seen disclosed this month.

The chart is all that matters. This chart is a flat line until 2053. Bullish.
