Amazon discontinued its budget Fire tablet and replaced it with a higher-priced Alexa tablet. The company says the new device has improved speed, better AI features, and an upgraded design. Three things the old one didn't have because Amazon spent years selling you garbage.
The budget Fire existed so parents could hand kids a $50 screen that wouldn't hurt when thrown at a wall. That was the entire value proposition. Now Amazon wants you to pay more for AI features on a tablet. AI features. On a device whose primary use case was watching Bluey on a road trip.
The Alexa tablet costs more because of improved performance. Performance doing what exactly? Listening to you ask about the weather? Showing you recipes you'll never make? Playing that one song you can never remember the name of but it goes "dun dun dun dun" in the chorus?
Amazon looked at its aging devices lineup and decided the problem was they weren't charging enough. Not that the devices were slow. Not that nobody uses Alexa for anything beyond setting kitchen timers. The problem was price. Too low. Too accessible. Too many people buying them without feeling financially violated.
The budget Fire is dead. Long live the premium Alexa tablet that does the same sh*t but costs more because someone bolted ChatGPT onto it and called it innovation. Your kitchen counter needed a more expensive rectangle. Amazon heard you loud and clear.
Retail traders will somehow find a way to make this bullish for Tesla.
