Anthropic named its new AI agent Duet. A duet needs two people. You will be the one watching.
The pitch is simple. Duet messages you first. It sends a morning brief, checks your apps every few hours, and keeps working after you close the laptop. It lives in its own cloud virtual machine with a browser. It has a better work ethic than you and a nicer office.
Anthropic says it checks with you before it acts. Bank transfers are blocked entirely. Even the robot's creators looked at the retail trader demographic and said no.
The target is professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track. That is a polite way to say people who miss emails. Duet reads them for you. Then it asks permission to reply. You will approve everything without reading it. That was already your process.
The competition is Meta's Muse, which launched last month and shot to the top of Apple's App Store. OpenAI followed with Dots at its developer conference. Anthropic arrives third. Duet is a research preview with a waitlist, open only to Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Anthropic is late to a party and is making you RSVP.
Anthropic admits Duet is not as strong at personal errands like booking tickets. Your new assistant cannot book a flight. It can build a dashboard about why you missed it.
The pitch also includes forex forecasts. An always-on agent, running on its own computer, handing currency predictions to a guy who still thinks leverage is a personality. Duet will message you only when something needs your attention. That will be your margin call.
Three of the largest AI companies on earth now sell a digital employee that never sleeps. Somewhere, a retail trader will give one of them his brokerage login and call it delegation.
Duet checks with you before it acts. Your wife stopped doing that years ago.
