Anthropic holds $131.7 billion in cash. Only Berkshire Hathaway and Alphabet hold more among non-bank U.S. companies.
Read that again. A chatbot company. Founded in 2021. Out-hoarding Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon on the cash line.
Warren Buffett spent six decades building his pile. He ate McDonald's breakfasts. He bought a candy company. He lived in the same house since 1958. Anthropic got there by asking investors nicely and typing fast.
Alphabet gets a pass. Alphabet prints money by selling ads against your search for "is this mole bad." Anthropic sells a robot that apologizes. Both models work.
Here is the technical read. The chart shows a bar. The bar is tall. Next to it sits a bar for Berkshire. Also tall. Everything else looks like a row of gravestones. I have drawn a trendline. It points up. It always points up until it doesn't.
Retail traders will see this chart and feel something. Hope, mostly. They will check whether they can buy a piece. They cannot. Anthropic is private. You are not invited. You are the guy outside the club asking the bouncer if the DJ takes requests.
Some of you will buy a stock with "AI" in the name instead. Good. Somebody has to fund the cash pile of the next one.
None of this matters, of course. Cash is a number on a screen. Charts are crayon drawings for adults. But if you must stare at a bar chart today, stare at this one, and remember that $131.7 billion is the only thing here larger than your confidence.
Your portfolio has a smaller balance than Anthropic's coffee budget, and the coffee has better returns.
