China Summit Will Definitely Fix Your Portfolio, Says Idiot

The S&P 500 dropped this week. Yields rose. Investors panicked. Next week a bunch of diplomats will shake hands in a room and every retail trader in America thinks their Tesla calls depend on it.

Here's what's at stake: nothing you can trade. The summit happens. Markets move. You'll read seventeen articles explaining why the move happened because of the summit. You'll ignore the fact that markets were going to move anyway because that's what they do every f*cking week.

Some analyst will draw a trendline on Monday morning. He'll say the 200-day moving average is critical resistance. He'll say the outcome of diplomatic talks between two nuclear superpowers will determine whether that line holds. He gets paid $340,000 a year to say this with a straight face.

The Dow posted a weekly loss. You know what else posted a weekly loss? Your ability to distinguish between actual risk factors and cable news filler content. The summit is scheduled. The headlines are pre-written. Someone will use the word "breakthrough" regardless of what happens. Someone else will use the word "tensions." Both articles will recommend the same seven ETFs.

Retail traders will watch the summit live like it's the Super Bowl. They'll read body language. They'll parse adjectives in the joint statement. They'll move their stop losses based on whether the handshake looked warm. Then they'll lose money for reasons that have nothing to do with any of it.

Rising yields hurt stocks. That's the actual story. But rising yields don't give you something to watch on TV next week, so here we are pretending that trade policy gets decided in a single summit and that you'll be able to front-run it from your Robinhood account.

The wildcard isn't the summit. The wildcard is that you think the summit matters.
