Donald Trump spent Tuesday night blaming Fox News for the Republican losses. Then he phoned in to Fox News.
Consistency is a gift.
The posts came fast on Truth Social. ,Fox "bears responsibility for these losses by constantly and consistently putting on the Dumocrat opposition.", Not the war in Iran. Not gas prices. ,Some Fox commentators and MAGA influencers cited exactly those., Trump chose a liberal co-host instead.
Her name is Jessica Tarlov. ,He wrote that he can't stand her voice, calling her "DUMB AS A ROCK.", One co-host of "The Five" flipped the House and the Senate. Impressive reach for a panel show.
Then came the ratings. ,Fox News reported 1.1 million average viewers for October, down about 27% from a year earlier., Trump's theory: ,"All of those people who used to watch Fox, and no longer do, get it. It's them, not me.",
The analysts disagree. ,They mostly blame GOP voter malaise, and Lachlan Murdoch blames "viewer fatigue.", Fatigue. Of watching what, exactly? A man who demands everyone get it, and then leaves a voicemail at midnight.
He did call in. ,He told Bret Baier the Fox polls are terrible. Baier replied that the night's results were pretty close to what those polls showed.,
That is a polling error in the form of an election.
The viewers, Trump says, ,are not going to any other news channel., So they're out there somewhere. Unwatching. Disciplined. A silent majority of off buttons.
Fox Corp. is fine. ,It reported an otherwise strong quarter, which Murdoch called an "outstanding start to fiscal 2027.", The channel lost a quarter of its audience and the stock-moving news is still good. Investors can ignore Trump's review.
Trump also announced ,he is going to become a "Political Pundit.", Finally, a voice on cable news that Trump can't blame for losing.
Fox has one fewer problem than it thinks. Its biggest critic is also its most loyal caller.
