Iran Shoots Down Drone Nobody Was Trading Anyway

Iran claims it destroyed an advanced U.S. drone over the Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon has not confirmed this. Retail traders immediately began panic-selling oil futures they don't understand while simultaneously buying defense contractor stocks they also don't understand. Diversification.

The Strait of Hormuz handles about a third of global seaborne oil traffic. You'd think this matters. It doesn't. Oil prices moved up for seventeen minutes before algos remembered we're in a simulation where nothing has consequences. Crude settled Tuesday exactly where it opened Monday because the market has achieved perfect enlightenment and sees through the veil of geopolitical theater.

Tehran and Washington are trading warnings and strikes with no sign of de-escalation, which sounds serious until you remember they've been doing this since before most Robinhood users were born. The conflict intensifies every six months like clockwork. Defense stocks go up. Oil goes sideways. Someone on CNBC says the word "escalation" forty times in three minutes. The cycle continues.

Advanced drone technology costs taxpayers roughly twelve million dollars per unit. Iran shot it down with equipment that probably cost less than a Tesla. The efficiency ratio here is remarkable but you won't see it on any earnings report. Lockheed Martin stock didn't even flinch because the replacement order was priced in before the drone left the hangar.

Somewhere right now a 19-year-old with $340 in his trading account is typing "how to trade war" into Google. He will find seventeen YouTube videos with thumbnails of guys pointing at screens. He will watch none of them. He will buy calls on an oil ETF he's never heard of. By Friday he will have $93 left and a Reddit post explaining how market makers personally targeted his position.

The Middle East remains on fire. Your portfolio remains unaffected. The drone remains destroyed. And you remain convinced geopolitical headlines mean something to your three shares of SPY.
