The deal closes in the first half of 2028. That is a long engagement. Some of you will not hold a stock that long. Some of you will not hold a job that long.
Lumentum's CEO called the opportunity "enormous." CEOs always say enormous. Nobody has ever announced a deal and called the opportunity "adequate."
Look at the timeline. Marvell and Lumentum are agreeing to connect AI data centers, and the paperwork alone takes until 2028. Light moves at 186,000 miles per second. Regulators move at the speed of a dental appointment.
Retail traders will read "enormous" and buy calls expiring Friday. The deal closes in 2028. That is not a mismatch. That is a hobby.
The AI connectivity story, in plain terms, is wires. Very expensive, very fast wires. Somebody has to connect the chips that will be used to generate pictures of cats in tuxedos. Lumentum and Marvell have decided that somebody is them.
I support this. Wires are honest. A wire does not tweet. A wire does not do a podcast about its journey.
Until 2028, nothing happens. Lawyers bill. Executives shake hands at conferences with lanyards. Analysts upgrade, downgrade, and upgrade again, like toddlers learning stairs.
Your portfolio will do something dramatic in the meantime, and it will have nothing to do with this. The only thing closing in the first half of 2028 is the window in which you could have learned to cook.
