Merck beat estimates. Raised its outlook. Keytruda, the cancer drug, now comes in a shot.
A shot. Under the skin. Instead of an IV drip.
Analysts called this strong. Analysts also called the last forty things strong.
Here is what matters. A patient used to sit in a chair for a while. Now the patient sits in a chair for less while. Merck calls this innovation. I call it a nurse getting her afternoon back.
Retail traders saw the headline and bought calls. Weekly calls. On a pharmaceutical giant. That sells a cancer drug. Whose patent clock everyone has been ticking about for years. You are not trading. You are donating to a market maker with extra steps.
The chart did not care about the beat. The chart does not read headlines. The chart has never once been moved by a profit outlook. Neither have you, apparently, except in the direction of your own wallet.
Merck makes a drug that fights cancer. You make a Discord channel that fights for a 0DTE lottery ticket. One of you is saving lives.
Buy the stock. Sell the stock. Merck will still be injecting people next quarter, and you will still be injecting hopium into a brokerage account with a 22 percent drawdown and a dog named Tendies.
Congratulations to Merck on a great quarter. Congratulations to you on being the only cancer in this story.
