Netflix Replaces One Person You've Never Heard Of With Another

Netflix fired Bela Bajaria. Hired Peter Rice. Both ran content divisions at major entertainment companies. Neither name has ever appeared in a retail trader's portfolio review.

Bajaria greenlit shows you watched. Rice greenlit shows you watched at Disney. Now Rice will greenlit shows you'll watch at Netflix. The stock moved point-three percent on the news. Twelve people traded options based on this information. All twelve lost money.

Rice left Disney in 2022 after Bob Iger decided the company needed fewer executives named Peter. Now he's at Netflix. He'll make the same decisions Bajaria made. Approve prestige dramas that cost forty million per episode. Cancel them after one season. Approve reality shows that cost twelve dollars. Renew them for eight seasons.

The content strategy will not change. The subscriber growth will not change. The password-sharing crackdown will continue exactly as planned. But somewhere right now a day trader is Googling "Peter Rice track record" and convincing himself this means Netflix is pivoting to family-friendly content.

It isn't.

Rice ran Disney's general entertainment division. Bajaria ran Netflix's entire content slate. Different jobs. Same result. You still won't find anything to watch on a Tuesday night. The algorithm still thinks you want to finish that true crime documentary you abandoned in 2019. None of this changes because the chief content officer has a different name on his company email.

The press release called this a "strategic leadership transition." Translation: one person left, another person started. Rice will attend the same meetings Bajaria attended. Sit in the same chair. Approve the same percentage of pitches. The only thing that changed is which executive producer calls which phone number to beg for a second season.

Your Netflix calls expire worthless either way.
