Senator Buys Sewer Bonds, Proves Democracy Is Working as Intended

David McCormick, United States Senator, has filed a disclosure revealing that sometime around June 18th, he purchased between $250,001 and $500,000 worth of Allegheny County Pennsylvania Sanitary Authority Sewer Revenue Bonds, maturing in 2055, at a cool 5% coupon. The STOCK Act requires him to tell you this. He told you this eight days later. Everyone is fine.

Let's appreciate the poetry here. A sitting U.S. Senator — a man with access to briefings, committees, and the general machinery of the American government — looked at the full universe of investable assets in 2026 and said: sewer bonds. Pennsylvania sewer bonds. Thirty-year Pennsylvania sewer bonds. Up to half a million dollars of them.

We're not saying anything. We're just noting that someone, somewhere, presumably confident in the long-term fiscal health of Allegheny County's sanitation infrastructure, committed a quarter to half a million dollars to that thesis with a straight face and filed the paperwork correctly.

The trade was flagged because it exceeded the $50,000 notability threshold. The threshold exists. The flag was triggered. The system worked. The sewers of Allegheny County will be revenue-generating until December 1, 2055, at which point we will all have much larger problems.

The chart, as always, is all that matters. The sewer, apparently, is also doing fine.
