Trump Discovers Nukes Are Bad for Swing States

Trump announced he won't use nuclear weapons on Iran. Bold stance. Really going out on a limb there. The bar for presidential reassurance now sits somewhere beneath the earth's crust.

He also ruled out ground troops. Which means the U.S. is weighing strike options that involve neither boots nor apocalypse. That leaves what, exactly? Strongly worded letters? Drone strikes we pretend are surgical? The same playbook we've run since 2003 but with better branding?

Retail traders heard "strike options" and immediately started buying defense contractors. Lockheed Martin ticked up half a percent. Raytheon followed. Because nothing screams sound investment thesis like geopolitical brinksmanship filtered through a man who changes his mind between breakfast and lunch.

The specificity of the denial is what matters. Nobody asked if he'd use nukes. He volunteered that information. Like a guy at a party announcing he definitely won't set the couch on fire. You weren't worried until he brought it up.

Iran's watching this unfold while checking crude oil futures. We're watching it unfold while pretending weapons manufacturers correlate to anything beyond random noise and government spending cycles. Both groups are wrong but only one of them is about to lose money on Robinhood.

Trump could announce he's striking Iran with pool noodles and the market would gap up on volume. He could say he's sending thoughts and prayers via FedEx and some analyst would upgrade Boeing. The headline doesn't matter. The response is always the same. Buy something. Anything. Defend the trade in the group chat. Watch it fade by Thursday.

Your neighbor Brad just bought calls on an ETF he can't spell because Trump said something about Iran on Truth Social and Brad thinks that counts as due diligence.
