Verizon now expects to add 1.1 to 1.2 million postpaid phone subscribers this year. Earlier it said 750,000 to 1 million. That is a raise of roughly 100,000 to 450,000 people who looked at their phone bill and said yes.
Nobody says yes to a phone bill. They just stop fighting.
The company also signed an AI infrastructure deal with Amazon Web Services worth more than $2 billion. Verizon, a company whose main product is a bar on your screen that says four bars, will now help build the machine that replaces your job.
You will read this and buy calls. Or puts. You will not know which. Your brokerage app will congratulate you either way.
Consider the math. One point one million new customers. Two billion dollars of AI plumbing. Zero of those dollars belong to you. You own eleven shares and a feeling.
Analysts call this a "beat and raise." That is Wall Street for "the dog did the trick, give the dog a bigger trick." The dog is Verizon. The trick is the dog still works. You are the guy at the park who films it and posts it with a ticker symbol.
Amazon gets a telecom partner. Verizon gets an AI story. Both get a press release. You get a push notification at 6:02 a.m. that you will mistake for a sign from God.
It is not a sign. It is a phone company doing phone company things, slightly better than it said it would.
Buy the stock if you must. Verizon has been paying you to wait for years, which is more than your last three girlfriends did.
