Analysts Bullish "For The Long Haul." You Won't Last Lunch.

Wall Street analysts love the long haul. They get paid by the quarter.

The headline says investors can "track top analysts to pick the right stocks." Track them. Like deer. Like a divorce lawyer tracks a pension.

The pitch is simple. Ignore short-term noise. Focus on long-term returns. Then read a headline about three stocks, which is the noise. You are being told to ignore the noise by the noise.

A "top analyst" is ranked by how often past calls worked. Past calls. The thing every prospectus warns you about in the fine print. Nobody has ever read the fine print. That is why the fine print is so fine.

Here is the long-term plan. Buy three stocks. Hold for years. Check the price nine times a day. Sell during the first dip. Call it a "rebalance."

You say you have a long time horizon. You panic-sold a rental scooter company because a stranger on Reddit used a skull emoji. Your horizon is the end of this sentence.

The analyst has a research team, a Bloomberg terminal, and a price target. You have a phone with 4% battery and a feeling. The feeling is not research. The feeling is lunch.

Analysts do not lose money when they are wrong. They lower the price target and issue a "reiterate." You lose money when they are wrong. You issue a sigh and a tax-loss harvest.

A chart does not care who is bullish. It cares where the buyers ran out. Support breaks. Resistance holds. Nobody on the sell side has ever apologized to a trendline.

Hold for the long haul if you must. Your portfolio is a Roth IRA the way your gym membership is a fitness journey.
