Trump appointed a committee to investigate statements made by Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. The same Lisa Cook he tried to fire. The same Lisa Cook whose firing the Supreme Court blocked. Now he's investigating her statements.
This is what happens when you can't fire someone. You form a committee. Committees don't do anything. They investigate. They hold hearings. They write reports nobody reads. But they exist, and that's what matters when you're mad at someone with job security.
Cook was nominated by Biden. That's the real crime here. Not her statements. Not her policy positions. She was appointed by the other guy. Trump tried the direct approachβfiring her. The Supreme Court said no. So now we get the indirect approach: a committee to investigate her statements.
What statements? Doesn't matter. The committee will find them. They'll comb through speeches. Testimony. Interviews. Maybe a podcast appearance where she said inflation is transitory. Maybe a conference where she suggested raising rates. Could be anything. The point isn't what she said. The point is Trump couldn't fire her.
Retail traders are already pricing this in. They're buying puts on the Fed's credibility. Calls on political theater. Straddles on constitutional crises. None of it will work. The committee will meet. Cook will keep her job. The Supreme Court will keep blocking termination attempts. And traders will keep losing money on strategies they found in a Reddit thread titled "How to Profit from Fed Drama."
The committee has a mandate. The mandate is investigating statements. Not policy. Not decisions. Statements. Words that came out of Cook's mouth. This is governance in 2026: you can't fire the person, so you investigate the words.
Cook's getting a committee and job security while you're getting a margin call.
