Two Men Offer Peace While Launching Missiles

Putin said he's open to talks. Zelenskyy said he's open to talks. Both said it Thursday. Both kept firing overnight.

This is the diplomatic equivalent of texting "we should hang out soon" while slashing someone's tires.

The U.S.-brokered push is the third act of a play nobody bought tickets to. Every few months, someone announces momentum. Every few months, the momentum goes wherever momentum goes. I'd check, but it's not my job.

Here is the technical read. The chart shows a long sideways channel of men saying "we are ready" and then proving otherwise. Support sits at the last press conference. Resistance sits at the next one. Volume is low. Casualties are not.

Retail traders will see "peace talks" and buy something with a ticker that sounds like wheat. They'll call it a thesis. It's a hunch with a brokerage login.

Wheat will go up on the strikes. Wheat will go down on the talks. Wheat will go up again on the strikes after the talks. You will lose money on all three moves and describe it to your spouse as "volatility."

Both leaders want you to believe peace is close. Both leaders are doing the opposite of whatever peace looks like. One of those facts is useful to a trader. Neither of them is.

Peace talks that run alongside overnight strikes are just negotiations with better lighting. Your portfolio will still be down by Monday.
